Chairman Dave Ramsay recently wrote to eBay and Pay Pal. My name is Dave Ramsay (trading on eBay/PayPal as "thestampdad") I am Chairman of the Internet Philatelic Dealers Association (IPDA). We are an Association of Internet based Stamp Dealers and we are concerned that our members are receiving numerous emails from different sources claiming to be either eBay or Pay Pal. I understand that these emails are beyond your control and you have taken various steps to try to protect eBay and PayPal members. One very good enhancement was introducing the "My Messages" area. Will this be available on the Pay Pal site? It is our desire to protect our membership from providing sensitive information through these emails that appear to be legitimate. Every now and then one of our members responds to a request for sensitive information since it appears to be legitimate. Luckily these members realized very quickly what they had done and immediately changed their passwords. I have found a few pages on the eBay and Pay Pal web sites titled: Tutorial on Spoof (fake) emails: http://pages.ebay.com/education/spooftutorial/?ssPageName=STRK:MEMM:LNLK How do I know that an email is really from eBay: http://pages.ebay.com/help/confidence/questions/email-authenticity.html Protect Yourself from Fraudulent Emails: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/general/SecuritySpoof-outside Pay Pal Security Centre: https://www.paypal.com/row/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_security-center-outside We would like to include these links on our web site at ipdaonline.org It is our goal to educate our membership so they do not fall victim to phishing or spoof emails. I am sure that you receive many of these illegitimate emails on a daily basis but I want to encourage our membership to forward every email to spoof@ebay.com or spoof@paypal.com that they receive which appears to come from eBay or Pay Pal. Hopefully the more you receive the faster these people can be stopped. Any further information or suggestions that you could provide would be appreciated. Sincerely, Dave Ramsay Chairman Internet Philatelic Dealers Association (IPDA) Back To Notice Board You may also like to view this page Fraud Protection |
